02: email trap

finding yourself in a trap can be difficult

the more time you take to find it, the more pain involved

same logic applies to having a cavity. You can go for over a year with your wife not telling you that your breath smells bad, only to find out you need 3 fillings next time you hit the dentist - true story

I found myself with a trap recently

Wend to Thailand and… wait hold up

Just had to make sure you were awake.

Found myself in what I call “the email trap”

Typically when I send someone an email, I’ll drop 4-5 manual touches in the follow ups over time

The more people in this loop, the more emails you send over the course of the manual cadence

So the trap I recently found myself in was thinking someone “might” be interested because they heard the first 20 seconds of my pitch, said they had to go, and then hung up

Chase too many shitty rabbits, and you catch none

What I should have done, was stick to my guns and keep calling them until you have an actual conversation to actually qualify interest which deems that individual worth your time.

Here’s how I found myself in the trap

• Felt down in the dumps, like I wasn’t enjoying my job but couldn’t understand why

• Looking at my metrics - was only booking 6 meetings a week

• Looked at why - spending most of my day writing emails and doing account research + admin, was only calling for 2-3 hours

Here’s how I’m getting myself out of the trap

• tightening the filter of interest

• focus on my highest converting channels (90 ish % calls + 10 ish % Linkedin dms)

Just got back in the saddle from moving the family into the new place, so will report on progress here in terms of digging oneself out of a rut

Note to self, do NOT move your family and go up and down flights of stairs continuously over the course of 3 days in 100 degree heat.
